Location and Directions

Mt Huia Farmstay is only 9km from State Highway 1 on the boundary of the Rangitikei and Manawatu regions in the lower North Island. Find us with ease using our printable driving directions and maps below, or use GPS coordinates (DMS): 39°49’31.99”S, 175°51’54.71”E.

Directions to Mt Huia Farmstay: 

Directions from State Highway 1

  • Turn East onto Ruahine Road (left if travelling from the North, right if travelling from the south), 300 metres North of Mangaweka.
  • The road takes you down a steep hill to cross a one-way bridge over the Rangitikei River.
  • Continue on this road, keeping the gorge on your left and the bluffs on your right.
  • Mt Huia is 9 km from SH1, on the first long stretch of straight road. The Homestead is on the right (with green picket fence, number 906); Hodd Cottage is on the left (with three bay garage and sign post, number 911).


Directions from Palmerston North

  • Travel to Feilding then head North on Kimbolton Road, through Cheltenham and Kiwitea to Kimbolton. Mt Huia is 60km from Feilding.
  • At this point the same road is called Rangiwahia Road. There is a 15 km windy but scenic stretch of road to Rangiwahia.
  • At Rangiwahia the same road changes name to Ruahine Road. Continue on this road following signs to Mangaweka. Mt Huia is 11km from Rangiwahia.
  • Approximately 500m after crossing a one way bridge (which is approx. 10.5kms from Rangiwahia), you will come to Mt Huia.
  • Hodd Cottage is located on your right (with three bay garage and sign post, number 911) and the Homestead a little further along on your left (with green picket fence, number 906).

Helpful Information

Arrival and Departure Policy

Check-in is from 3.00pm unless other arrangements are agreed. The lights will be on if you are arriving late.
Check-out is by 10.30am unless other arrangements are agreed.

Booking and Payment Policy

Your booking at Mt Huia Farmstay is secured on payment of a deposit of $160, or the equivalent of the first night's accommodation, whichever is the greater. Once your booking dates are confirmed the deposit can be paid by:
  • NZ cheque, or
  • internet banking to an account advised or
  • by provision of credit card details through a secure online link which will be advised.  We accept VISA and MasterCard.

Final payment of full tariff is required by one of the methods below:

  • Prior to your visit using internet banking, or
  • By cash at the time of your visit, or
  • By credit card at the time of your visit, but please note this will incur a surcharge of 5%, to cover some costs charged to us by the bank.

Cancellation Policy

As accommodation is on single occupancy basis a late cancellation has a significant effect on our business.
  • Cancellation is required a minimum of fourteen (14) days before date of booking for full refund of deposit.
  • Cancellation between 7 and 13 days prior to booking will result in loss of 50% of deposit.
  • “No show" or late notification will result in loss of deposit (or having deposit amount charged against your credit card) and the possibility of being charged in full depending on the circumstances of the cancellation.
