Mt Huia is 9km off State Highway 1 at Mangaweka, midway between Rotorua and Wellington, on a scenic through route with light traffic volumes. Only one turn off is required onto Ruahine Road (See Directions). Guests without their own transport can be collected from the coach at Mangaweka.

Directions



Directions from State Highway 1

  • Turn East onto Ruahine Road (left if travelling from the North, right if
    travelling from the south), 300 metres North of Mangaweka.
  • The road takes you down a steep hill to cross a one-way bridge over the Rangitikei River.
  • Continue on this road, keeping the gorge on your left and the bluffs on your right.
  • ‘Mt Huia is 9 km from SH1, on the first long stretch of straight road. The Homestead is on the right (with green picket fence, number 906); Hodd Cottage is on the left (with three bay garage and sign post, number 911).

Directions from Palmerston North

  • Travel to Feilding then head North on Kimbolton Road, through Cheltenham and Kiwitea to Kimbolton.
  • At this point the same road is called Rangiwahia Road. There is a 15 km windy but scenic stretch of road to Rangiwahia.
  • At Rangiwahia the same road is called Ruahine Road. Continue on this road following signs to Mangaweka.
  • ‘Mt Huia is 60 km from Feilding, 11 km from Rangiwahia, just after you come over a one way bridge.

Hodd Cottage is on the right (with three bay garage and sign post, number 911). The Homestead is on the left (with green picket fence, number 906).
